Bringing Music to Life

I’m Danielle Goldsmith, an audio engineer, mixer, sound designer, and producer working out of recording studios in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles.

I provide a full range of audio services, including full band and solo artist recording, music production, mixing, field recording, sound design, and audio editing. I’m equally comfortable working in digital, analog, and hybrid recording environments.

I enjoy working in all music genres (including rock, pop, rap, classical, country, jazz, ambient, experimental, and more), and I love using my knowledge and skill in the recording studio to assist artists in bringing their projects to life.

Studios

  • Tiny Telephone

Owned by John Vanderslice, this studio in Oakland, CA is equipped with a 1976 Neve 8068 console and features a large live room and multiple isolation rooms capable of accommodating many different types of sessions.

  • Wiggle Room

I built Wiggle World with Sami Perez and Spencer Hartling in Los Angeles in 2020. We have a well-curated collection of preamps, compressors, and effects to make a great sounding record in a small space.

  • Women's Audio Mission (WAM)

This San Francisco-based studio run entirely by women and gender-expansive people features a large collection of quality gear in a welcoming space for underrepresented people in the field of music.

“I’ve worked with Danielle on solo acoustic, full live band, and experimental spoken-word recordings. She has the technical skill and the perfect temperament for ensuring your project is a success.”

Music has always been a huge part of my life.

When I was younger, I played in bands and loved reading about how records are made, but I didn’t consider a career in audio engineering until enrolling in classes and interning at Women’s Audio Mission (WAM).

Prior to joining WAM, I worked in biomedical research and enjoyed the scientific and technical aspects of my job, but I craved something more creative. At WAM, I immediately found what I was looking for. From the moment I began learning about working as an audio engineer, I knew the profession was for me.

In addition to training at WAM, I worked as an assistant recording engineer with John Vanderslice and others at Tiny Telephone in Oakland and San Francisco and as an assistant engineer as part of an internship with Tony Berg and Blake Mills at Sound City in Los Angeles.

In recent years, I’ve worked as lead audio engineer out of WAM, Tiny Telephone in Oakland, and Wiggle World, a small studio in Los Angeles I built with Sami Perez and Spencer Hartling.

My Approach

When starting a project, I ask the band or artist about their goals for the session. I also talk to them about recordings that inspire them, so I can use that information, if applicable, to tailor the sounds to their project.

A recording studio can sometimes be an intimidating environment, especially for new artists. I do everything I can to create a comfortable space, one that’s free of judgment and full of collaboration.

For artists who are new to the studio, I enjoy teaching them about the gear, so they feel empowered to use the space to express themselves. I also love recording bands live in the studio. It’s fun to become a temporary band member and find my place within the group dynamics.

At the end of every project, I hope the artists I work with leave the studio feeling inspired to create more!
